Scheduling a kid dental cleaning twice a year is an important part of maintaining their oral health. As a children's dentist, we recommend professional cleanings since this provides the best opportunity for children to remain in good oral health. When it comes to the teeth, preventative care is the best type of care.
What to expect
Regular dental visits make it possible to prevent problems like tooth decay and infections. This is a far better option than needing emergency dental work because of an infection. Since these appointments are affordable, fast and convenient, there is no reason to delay in scheduling one.
When a child visits us for their first kid dental cleaning, we understand that they may have some level of anxiety or fear since this is a new experience. Children tend to become more comfortable with things they are familiar with. Thus, the anxiety goes away in time. We will take great care to ensure that a child is relaxed and comfortable when visiting our clinic the first time. We use friendly conversation and questions, pointing out kid-friendly things in the office and taking the time to get to know them.
Professional Examination
Before ever cleaning the teeth, our staff will look inside of the child's mouth and begin to discuss the different tools that we will be using. Showing a child what we use to clean the teeth before starting the process makes the child feel more comfortable and familiar with what is about to take place.
The cleaning itself involves several tools. We will need to put an abrasive cleaning solution on the teeth and then apply it using a circular dental tool. This works similar to a toothbrush and toothpaste only much better. It can actually break up the plaque where typical brushing has difficulty doing so. We will also floss their teeth and may use a dental pick to remove plaque and tartar that is particularly hard to remove.
We will use water to rinse the cleaning solution off their teeth and out of their mouth and use a tool to suck up that water so that the child does not need to swallow or spit.
A kid dental cleaning can be fast
Though there is a lot to do, our team is fast and efficient at completing a dental cleaning. We understand that children have a limited attention span and so it is important to get them in and out of the chair as quickly as possible. This has made us incredibly efficient at what we do and able to complete their appointment in a short time while still doing a thorough job.
In fact, cleaning appointments can take as little as 30 minutes. Call today to schedule an appointment for your child so that they can have a kid's dental cleaning and improve their oral health.
