Emergency Dentist For Children and Why You Need One

Emergency Dentist For ChildrenVisiting the emergency dentist for children is not a task that people will have on their checklist. We do find that most families seek the attention of an emergency dentist for children, at least once in a child's life. The reality is that while parents do not want to see their child having any discomfort, dental emergencies can sometimes occur. Children seem to have an unnervingly natural talent for getting hit in the face with a ball, slipping at the swimming pool, or knocking out a tooth while jumping on the trampoline.

As a parent, you are probably going to need to seek out an emergency dentist for children at some point. As such, it is a good idea to have the contact information for a dentist who can deal with emergencies programmed into your phone. This way, you can easily access the emergency care without needing to search Google during your moment of panic.

    Time Matters

If your child is having a dental emergency it is critical that you get them in to see an emergency dentist for children as soon as possible to prevent further damage to their teeth. Over the course of our practice, we have seen several injuries and conditions that occur more frequently among children than they do adults, including toothaches. Regardless of what brings your child in, we can help.

    Toothaches are a Major Problem

Among the most common reasons why people bring their child in to see an emergency dentist for children is a common toothache. A toothache can be debilitating for adults and can have a significant impact on a child as well. As a parent, one of the things that you want to remember is that you need to be calm and collected. Following an accident, your child is going to be feeding off your emotion.  Typically, we have found that even when a child comes in to see an emergency dentist for children they have a high tolerance for being able to take things as they come, and often it is the parents that are more worried than the children. Regardless, the most important thing you can do is bring your child in to see the emergency dentist for children because if your child has a toothache that will not go away we need to get to the root cause as soon as possible.

Toothaches are often caused by fractures in the tooth from an accident, trauma to the tooth, untreated tooth decay, or (especially in adolescents) the eruption of wisdom teeth. If your child, or adolescent, is having a toothache that will not go away, one of the first things you need to do is cleanse the area with warm water and make sure that there is nothing impacted in the tooth. If there's something impacted in the tooth and you can remove it with the help of dental floss, a clean finger, or a toothbrush this may help remove the problem. If however, there is nothing impacted and you cannot stop the discomfort, you need to bring your child in to see an emergency dentist for children immediately.
