4 Signs of a Dental Cavity and Why it Should be Treated

Thinking you or your child might have a cavity in one of your teeth and wondering what some of the more common signs are when it comes to having a cavity? The oral problems you are currently experiencing may be related to something other than a cavity, making it a good idea for you to understand some of the more common cavity signs.
If you indeed do have a cavity, then you will need to make an appointment with a dental professional as soon as possible to have it filled. If you do not, then it will just continue to get worse, which can cause you pain and the eventual loss of your tooth.
Signs you may have a dental cavity
The following are four of the more common signs that can let someone know whether not they are likely to have one or more dental cavities in their mouth.
1. Sensitive teeth
Having one or more teeth that are sensitive when eating or drinking anything that is hot or cold can be a sign that you have a cavity.
2. Bad breath
Another sign of a cavity is having persistent bad breath that will just not go away even though brushing and flossing is regularly performed
3. Cracked tooth
If you or your child have a crack in one or more of the teeth, you may have a cavity. This is because cracks weaken the teeth making them much more vulnerable to getting cavities.
4. Tooth pain
Having general tooth pain, which is often due to a cavity reaching the nerve of the tooth causing various levels of pain, is another common sign of a cavity.
What happens if cavities are left untreated?
If a tooth has a cavity and it is left untreated, it will eventually lead to an infection in the tooth. While it is possible for a dental professional to address the infection in hopes of saving the tooth in some patients, this option is not available for all patients. Sometimes the infection is too far gone, and the tooth will need to be pulled. If this happens, then the dental patient will need to choose a tooth replacement option.
Teeth are meant to last a lifetime with proper care, and that is why if someone has a cavity it needs to be addressed as soon as entirely possible.
